Snake & Reptile Farm

The Snake & Reptile Farm in Sungai Batu Pahat, Perlis, is one of the few tourist attractions in this northernmost state in Malaysia. It is located 12km north of Kangar on Route R11. The farm holds more than 300 snakes from 30 different species. The farm is run by the Institute of Medical Research. Many of the snakes are venomous, as the purpose of the farm is in support of serum research and development.
There are also reptiles such as crocodiles, and lizards. If you are lucky, there are also some snakes shows. A tame python may be released for visitors to see. You can also get various info about snakes.

Snake Park, there are more than 30 species of snakes and other species such as crocodile, lizard, horse, turtles, otters, and others. Some of the reptiles are kept in open-air enclosures while others are behind glass. The farm wasn't dirty, the animals were properly treated, and the enclosures were not too small.

Snake and Reptile Park will be upgraded to a mini zoo in line with its position at the biggest tourist locations in the state, said General Manager of State Economic Development Corporation (PKENPs) Kassim Zakaria.

He said the park which houses 328 poisonous snakes and non poisonous snake park and it is the largest reptiles in the country to receive tourists in the country and abroad.

 "Until last November, more than 120,000 local and foreign tourists have visited the Snake and Reptile Park and the figure will increase further with the organization of Cute Cats Carnival 2011 the first ever," he said here in conjunction with a two-day carnival.

PKENPs set a target of 500,000 visitors will visit the park for a period of three years beginning this year and the figure be achieved through a variety of side events organized in the park.

Snake and Reptile Park, located on the edge of the range Nakawan wall that separates Malaysia and Thailand is also surrounded by several tourist attractions including herb gardens, vineyards, farms and golf courses.

The Snake & Reptile Farm is open from 9:00am to 5:00pm Saturdays through Thursdays, while on Friday between 9:00am to 6:00pm with a break from 12:15pm to 2:45pm. Entrance fee is RM4.00.
From Kangar Town, take either Route R5 or R8. Both these routes will link to Route 11. From Route 11, be on a look out for the road sign pointing to the snake farm.
